Fitting your grip
1. Clean the board
Thoroughly clean all traces of wax, dirt and grit from the surfboard. DO NOT USE oil based cleaning products. We recommend acetone, then rinse with hot water.
2. Position and mark
Positioning your tail pad is probably your most important decision when it comes to board performance. It is essential it is positioned just in front of the leash plug, and ideally the base of the kick tail should be placed directly above the end of your back fin.
3. Apply the grip
Begin by lining up and marking the correct position for the rear of the kick. Peel off the backing sticker of the centre piece. Starting at the kick end, centre this piece and align it with your stringer as you work it forward and stick it down. From this initial piece, position the other pieces to suit the overall tail shape and positioning required. When you are happy with the look and position, firmly apply pressure to all of the grip, particularly the edges and kick area, to make sure everything is firmly down. Wait 24 hours for maximum bond. If there are air bubbles under the grip, insert a needle into the problem area and work them out using pressure.
Note: grips only come unstuck due to poor surface preparation. In such cases, restick the lifting area using contact adhesive.
